About the Love Artist, Garry Cobb.

During the ’70s and ’80s, long before mobile phones, social media, AI, or digitally-enhanced images, my love story pencil drawings appeared in magazines across the world.

This is how love was expressed in the pages of magazines that have long gone.

Hundreds were syndicated to countries like the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, France, Sweden, West Germany, Italy, Finland, South Africa, and appeared in British teenage magazines like Jackie, Oh Boy! My Guy, Pink, Mates, OK!, True Romance, Suzy, Blue Jeans, Photo-Love and many more.

I marketed products from Vidal Sassoon to Marks and Spencer; record covers and books, and was commissioned by a variety of media companies including Marvel Comics. I drew stars like Simon Le Bon, Cliff Richards, Boy George, Toyah Wilcox, Cyndi Lauper, Tracy Ullman and Annie Lennox.

I still accept commissions from anyone who would like a personal drawing of yourself or your loved ones.

Publicity Agents

My first love-story illustration appeared in issue 732 of ‘Jackie’ magazine on 1st February, 1978. During the late seventies and eighties I was represented by my London-based agents, Anglo-Continental Artists (ACA), and then by Photographers, Writers and Artists (PWA International).

Love and romance is inspired by art and music. And music has always inspired me. You are welcome to listen to this compilation of my favourite soft, romantic music from Europe and around the world. The Dutch teen magazine, ‘Anita’.

Teenage magazines in many European countries offered me a platform for my illustrations. A frequent buyer was Dutch magazine, ‘Anita’. Before the days of emails and social media, sackfuls of fan mail would arrive at their offices at Ceylonpoort in Haarlem. The love story illustrations were so popular that in 1983, along with an interview, the magazine decided to run a competition where I would draw the winners and their pets.

I still love to draw and paint, dividing my time between Scotland and Spain. I was born in London before moving to Cornwall where I attended Falmouth School of Art and later studied Graphic Art at East Ham College of Technology in London.
